3 days ago · The a7 II has a full frame 24.3 MP Exmor CMOS sensor. This gives a maximum resolution of 4000 x 6000 pixels. The sensor on the a7 III is similar in resolution (24.2 megapixels). But it uses an improved Exmor R CMOS sensor with back-illuminated (BSI) technology. The a6600 uses a 24.2 MP APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor.
Not all full-frame cameras will do better of course, there is always some technology leapfrogging happening. But if you need the best in low light performance, you're going to need full frame. I personally prefer larger sensors for a different reason, which is the relationship between angle of view and DOF.
